Stabilizing two-dimensional turbulent Kolmogorov flow via selective modification of inviscid invariants

Abstract:We stabilize 2D turbulent Kolmogorov flow by selectively altering the time rate of change of inviscid invariants (energy and enstrophy) of the flow. This method has earlier been demonstrated to modify the 2D unforced decaying turbulent flow to reach steady states. However, Kolmogorov flow exhibits flow unsteadiness over a range of spatial and temporal scales which are driven by constant external forcing at wave number kf. The energy injected at scale (k≈kf) is distributed to large (k>kf) and small (k&am… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
