“…Since this technique was performed in two stages, the site of the greenstick fracture could be predicted and predetermined. 25 Piezoelectric device was used to perform corticotomies in this study. Its positive effects on bone viability have been reported by several studies in oral surgery.…”

“…Several modifications were introduced previously using various cutting tools for more precise placement of the osteotomies during ridge splitting technique for marginal bone preservation, some studies used the micro saw or piezoelectric devices, which greatly simplifies the split crest procedure. 12,13 Another study 14 compared ridgesplitting technique using surgical discs and piezotomes and concluded that both were effective in ridge splitting. In this study, the cuts were performed using carbide discs of 1.5 thickness allowing accurate placement of a very thin mid crestal and labial osteotomies through the slits of the guide.…”

“…in “staged ridge splitting technique for horizontal expansion in mandible,” the ridge was expanded and bone graft ossify containing biphasic beta tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite was placed to maintain the gap between the cortices. [17] In the present study, the bone plates were maintained in place by using small bone chips inserted deep in between the separated cortical plates and then the mucosa sutured from buccal to lingual to aid in fixing the lateralized plate in place. The gap was between 3 and 5 mm and was left to be filled with a blood clot giving the opportunity for normal wound healing resembling an extraction socket.…”
