Standard Verification Test for Industrialised Building System (IBS) Repetitive Manufacturing

Abstract: New innovative Industrialised Building System (IBS) has been implemented in Malaysia. It is a sustainable approach, innovative technique and implements repetitive manufacturing using green materials. This paper presents one of the standard tests to check the design and strength of IBS components via an experimental flexural test and then verify the finite element analysis. One IBS frame was set-up, tested with two points of monotonic vertical loading, and analysed by Abaqus 6.12 software. The structural perfor… Show more

“…In construction projects, off-site prefabrication entails the practice of modular coordination [17]. It shares many commonalities with repetitive production [24]. Hosseini et al (2018) [25] suggest that the ideas, approaches, and practices of off-site prefabrication may be cross-fertilized.…”

“…For the builder, their necessity to coordinate and achieve common goals also exist concerns within construction project planning, designing, supplier logistics, as well as construc-tion/prefabrication. Maintaining control has been identified as an off-site prefabrication obstacle for buyers as well [24].…”

“…The construction industry in Malaysia, which is one of the oldest sectors and biggest industries in the country, is still unfamiliar with the benefits of automation and robotic mechanisms. In the era of Industrial revolution 4.0, the dependency on cheap labour is unnecessary; therefore a test conducted by Marsono et al (2015) on the structural performance through manufacturing can open up a new business model that supports automation and mechanisation which has been proposed by Zairul (2017) in his thesis (Figure 9). Earlier several articles discussed the enablers and barriers for onsite mechanisation (Waris et al, 2015) and the awareness of onsite mechanization (Waris et al, 2014).…”
