Standardization of renal function evaluation in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora's colony

Abstract: Was standardized: 24-hour urine collection without fasting. The deproteinization showed no benefit. The measurements were performed with spectrophotometer reliability. It generated a practical formula for estimating PT 24 hours through rP/C.

“…Moreover, renal I/R resulted in a significant increase in FE Na+ on the 2 time points of follow-up after ischaemia, suggesting a significant impairment of tubular function. These findings confirm that I/R injury to the kidney causes both glomerular and tubular dysfunctions, and are in agreement with those reported by others (Bussmann et al, 2014;Castro et al, 2014;Malek and Nematbakhsh, 2015;Punuru et al, 2014). Renal I/R injury is characterized by decreases in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), tubular and glomerular damage, impairment in hemodynamic regulation and energy depletion (Malek and Nematbakhsh, 2015).…”

“…The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a well-known tool to measure the excretory capacity of the kidney. In clinical practice, GFR is obtained from the creatinine clearance in urine samples collected over 24 hours [32]. The significantly higher creatinine clearance rate in the EL 200 (mid dose) and EL 400 (high dose) groups compared to PCM alone group demonstrated the ability of EL to eliminate creatinine from blood into urine, eventually normalising creatinine content in the blood.…”

“…Creatinine was measured in urine and serum by Enzymatic Method (Creatinina K kit, Labtest Diagnóstico, Lagoa Santa, Brazil), which is based on Jaffe's reaction principle associated to the application of a correction index (8). This methodology minimizes the interference on creatinine determination.…”
