Star‐shaped alkylated poly(glycerol methacrylate) reverse micelles: Synthesis and evaluation of their solubilizing properties in dichloromethane

Abstract: Amphiphilic star‐shaped polymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Four‐, 5‐, and 6‐arm ATRP initiators were prepared and used to polymerize glycidylmethacrylate. The resulting polymers were hydrolyzed to yield poly(glycerolmethacrylate)s (PGOHMAs), and then partially esterified with lauroyl or stearoyl chloride (40–60 mol % vs. hydroxyl groups). Alkylated PGOHMAs were found to assemble into 20–60 nm aggregates in dichloromethane (DCM) above a critical concentration. Particle siz… Show more

“…A related synthetic approach presented by Leroux and coworkers. [183][184][185] involves the formation of reversed micelles by ATRP. Four-, 5-, 6-, and 8-arm ATRP initiators were prepared and used to polymerize glycidylmethacrylate.…”

“…Methylethylamine (MEA), diethylamine (DEA), and DPA were obtained from Tianjin Guangfu Synthesis of amino poly(glycerol methacrylate)s and quaternized poly(glycidyl methacrylate)s Linear (L-PGMA) and 8-arm (S8-PGMA) PGMAs were synthesized and modified with different amines according to our previous reports. [33,34] Briefly, GMA was polymerized in THF using the corresponding atom transfer radical polymerization initiator to yield L-PGMA and S8-PGMA products. The L-PGMA and S8-PGMA were then modified with three kinds of aliphatic amines, i.e.…”

“…From this latter technique, an analysis was made in terms of sequence distribution and stereoregularity of monomer units along the macromolecular chains of P(G-co-B) copolymers, demonstrating that the system under study presents the features of spontaneous gradient copolymers. Besides, the polymeric systems based on G present a high synthetic potential, so for example they can be easily hydrolyzed to yield the new hydroxylated derivatives (amphiphilic systems), as the recent literature has well described [38].…”
