Stark Effect and the F‐Center Excited States

Abstract: Using a simple model of the F‐center, it is shown that whether the |2Γ 4−〉 state is above or below |2Γ 1+〉 in emission is not quite clear from the existing Stark data. In light of this, the relative merits of the different Stark effects are critically analyzed. It is shown that fresh data on the field‐induced changes in the radiative life‐time can unambiguously settle the relative position of the |2Γ 4−〉 state with respect to |2Γ 1+〉.
