Abstract:Ceramics are used in ballistic protection applications for their high hardness and compressive strength; however, they are brittle and shock-sensitive. Co-continuous ceramic composite (C4) infused with a ductile phase can compensate for the brittleness of the ceramic and increase energy absorption with a potential weight reduction in comparison with present multilayer armours. Nevertheless, the research on C4 for armour applications is in its infant stage. This article aims to investigate the energy absorption… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
