Statistical Completeness Analysis of Seismic Data

Abstract: Earthquakes constitute one of the most powerful forces to which most civil engineering structures and historical constructions will ever be subjected; and thus designing and preserving structures to resist these forces is of utmost importance. The goal of earthquake-resistant design is to produce a structure or facility that can withstand a certain level of shaking without excessive damage. Seismic hazard analyses involve the quantitative estimation of ground shaking hazards at a particular site. … Show more

“…If the value of Mc is too high, then data was under sampling by removal of unwanted data and if the value is too low and approaches to negative this represents the inaccuracy among the seismic parameters and during data collection (Mignan and Woessner, 2012). Moreover, the completeness analysis on whole earthquake catalogue or various magnitude intervals provides the impartial approximation of the previous seismicity (Khan and Kumar, 2018). This Mc value can be used further for design the high rise building or dam site construction in seismic hazard analysis as well as response spectra.…”

“…There are different values to establish these windows. In this research, the proposal by Uhrhammer [83] has been chosen as it is a conservative solution and widely used [29,81,82,84,85]. After determining the M c , regarding the b-value calculation, the cut-off magnitude (M co ≥ M c ) for this work has been set as 2.0 (M2), to have a margin and, besides, consider a standard value.…”
