Stereoscopic 3D Visual Discomfort Prediction: A Dynamic Accommodation and Vergence Interaction Model

Abstract: The human visual system perceives 3D depth following sensing via its binocular optical system, a series of massively parallel processing units, and a feedback system that controls the mechanical dynamics of eye movements and the crystalline lens. The process of accommodation (focusing of the crystalline lens) and binocular vergence is controlled simultaneously and symbiotically via cross-coupled communication between the two critical depth computation modalities. The output responses of these two subsystems, w… Show more

“…en, three phases, rounding, partitioning, and solving, are used to solve the problem. Among them, the rounding stage includes two Complexity stages: demand rounding and location rounding; the partitioning stage includes two stages: station partitioning and interstation partitioning; the solution stage includes two stages: instance solving both sides and intermediate instance solving [24]. Finally, the algorithm outputs the approximate solution of the instance in polynomial time.…”

“…The disparity intensity distribution feature (DID) proposed in this section will reflect the adjustment intensity of A/V conflict, that is, the amplitude of disparity change in one image. Imagine that if the amplitude of disparity change from one area to another area is too large, the steady state between accommodation and vergence has to reestablish, and the new steady state will have a significant difference from the previous one [25]. In other words, there is obvious hopping in depth.…”

“…Although the ocular accommodation driven by 3D displays were discussed in many studies [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18], the relaxing of accommodation in hyperopic objects has never been studied. Because that measuring hyperopia in children is often masked by accommodation, and hyperopia is a significant risk factor of developing amblyopia, it is important to relax children's accommodation for accurate assessment.…”
