Stochastic Broadcast for VANET

Abstract: Vehicular Ad-hoc NETworks (VANETs) are an emerging important type of wireless ad-hoc network. Unlike many other types of MANETs, VANET applications such as traffic data dissemination are inherently broadcast oriented and require communication protocols to be anonymous and scalable. Simple broadcast flooding satisfies these requirements, but its performance is highly dependent on network density and may lead to the broadcast storm problem. This work is the first we are aware of to propose stochastic broadcast as… Show more

“…We argue that many protocols are not belonging to one fixed class, but combine the properties from different classes. This was also stated by (Slavik & Mahgoub, 2010) and we call them therefore Hybrid Broadcast Protocols. In the following we give an overview over basic attributes of protocols, which define key characteristics.…”

“…about abnormal road conditions or post-crash warning) to vehicles which can benefit from such information to avoid an accident. Thus, this kind of applications rely mostly on the dissemination of information into a specific geographic region, therefore, a geographically limited broadcast -or so called GeoCast -is used (Bai et al, 2006;Bako et al, 2008;Slavik & Mahgoub, 2010). It is also important to note, that safety applications are delay critical, i.e.…”
