Abstract:SUMMARYA suboptimal stochastic optimization method for the long-term scheduling of a hydroelectric reservoir is described. The objective of the optimization is to minimize thermal station fuel costs, in a mixed hydrothermal power system, over a one-year horizon. Exact stochastic and deterministic solutions, obtained by dynamic programming (DP) for a simple one-reservoir model, are compared. The two solutions differ significantly, indicating that deterministic solutions to the problem are inadequate. Stochastic… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
