Stray Light Analysis and Elimination of an Optical System Based on the Structural Optimization Design of an Airborne Camera

Abstract: An aspherical airborne camera has excellent performance in the field of photoelectric reconnaissance equipment. However, the image plane contrast of the optical system will be reduced by stray light originating from inside or outside of the optical system. In the present work, the self-designed aspheric airborne camera is manufactured with a baffle and vanes to reduce the impact of stray light on the camera imaging quality. TracePro software is used to analyze the stray light and establish an ABg mathematical … Show more

“…Based on the characteristics of infrared imaging spectrometers and the analysis method used for stray light in traditional optical systems, the following potential sources of stray light were determined [24]: (1) Stray light can be caused by light originating outside the system's field of view entering the optical system, which mainly comes from direct irradiation by sunlight, surface radiation, and atmospheric scattering. The stray light is formed after it reaches the image plane through the optical system, and this light is generally present in various imaging systems.…”

“…The transmission of stray light on any two surfaces conforms to the radiation transfer theory [27], the principle of which is shown in Figure 3. According to the radiative transfer theory, between two media surfaces, light energy propagates as follows [28]:…”

“…The PST method was put forward by Breault [13]- [15] in the 1970s, which was used to measure the stray light suppression ability corresponding to different off-axis angles. Henceforth, many institutions conducted research on the analysis and detection of stray light in optical systems using PST method.…”
