Streaming H.264 scalable video over data distribution service in a wireless environment

Abstract: Abstract-The Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware is enjoying a rapid adoption in high-performance, mission-critical networks. At the same time, the H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC) has been recently standardized and it is deemed to be an effective solution for video streaming over a channel with timevarying bandwidth, like the wireless one. In these conditions, it is critical to adapt the video bit-rate to the actual wireless capacity, and bit-rate adaptation is extremely simple for a H.264 SVC video. … Show more

“…When extending this approach of splitting transform coefficients into layers to 8 8 macroblocks, there are two approaches in H.264 MGS. One approach is to divide a given 8 8 macroblock into four 4 4 submacroblocks and to split the coefficients of each 4 4 submacroblock according to the above approach illustrated in Fig.…”

“…Such as Detti, Loreti and BlefariMelazzi [3] who devised a mechanism for streaming H.264 scalable video using multiple topics and rate control based on the connection between publisher and subscriber. Their result was a system that could alter video quality in order to maintain video delivery when network bandwidth becomes restricted.…”

“…For example, for video traffic DDS has been approved that it is suitable standard to be used in video streaming [19][20][21]. And also for limited resources networks it has been enhanced to meet the limited-band width networks by RTI Company [22].…”
