Stretchable micro-scale concentrator photovoltaic module with 15.4% efficiency for three-dimensional curved surfaces

Abstract: Stretchable photovoltaics are emerging power sources for collapsible electronics, biomedical devices, and buildings and vehicles with curved surfaces. Development of stretchable photovoltaics are crucial to achieve rapid growth of the future photovoltaic market. However, owing to their rigidity, existing thin-film solar cells based predominantly on silicon, compound semiconductors, and perovskites are difficult to apply to 3D curved surfaces, which are potential real-world candidates. Herein, we present a stre… Show more

“…The torn gr-PSA film after the tensile test shows that a crack occurred at the interface of the graphite patterns and the s-PSA matrix (figure 7(b)). This indicates that the crack initiated at the vertices where stress was concentrated [23] and propagated along the edge of the patterns.…”

“…Lightweight and flexible PVs are mostly vital for integration scheme with weight restrictions and curved surfaces such as in vehicles, greenhouses, wearable electronics and aerospace applications. [19,29,[196][197][198][199][200][201][202] While, stretchable SCs are relevant for wearable textile and portable devices. [41,[203][204][205] Furthermore, the size of PV devices can be adapted from upscaled integrated systems to miniature micro-cells.…”

“…Therefore, covering curved surfaces causes problems such as mechanical stress and mismatching losses [58][59][60]. Several innovative PVs suitable for enclosing curved surfaces have been developed recently [61,62]. VIPVs were evaluated recently, including the curved surface and impact from temperature [63,64].…”
