String phenomenology from a worldsheet perspective

Abstract: I argue that the ten dimensional non-supersymmetric tachyonic superstrings may serve as good starting points for the construction of viable phenomenological vacua. Thus, enlarging the space of possible solutions that may address some of the outstanding problems in string phenomenology. A tachyon free six generation Standard-like Model is presented, which can be regarded as an orbifold of the SO(16) × E 8 heterotic-string in ten dimensions. I propose that any (2, 0) heterotic-string in four dimensions can be co… Show more

“…It is a general property of heterotic-string vacua. From a worldsheet perspective, the SVD suggests that all string vacua are connected by interpolations or by orbifolds, but are distinct in the low energy effective field theory [45]. Further insight into the spinor-vector duality is obtained by translating to the bosonic Z 2 × Z 2 representation.…”

“…Construction of vacua that descends from the tachyonic ten dimensional vacua amounts to removing the S-vector from the basis generating the models [45,53]. This can be achieved by removing the S-vector entirely from the basis, or by augmenting it with four periodic worldsheet fermions {φ 1,...,4 }, definingS = {ψ 1,2 , χ 1,...,6 |φ 1,...,4 }.…”

“…The SVD arises from the breaking of the (2,2) worldsheet supersymmetry to (2,0), and is a general property of heterotic-string vacua. From a worldsheet perspective, the SVD suggests that all string vacua are connected by interpolations or by orbifolds, but are distinct in the low energy effective field theory [34]. Another important result from the free fermionic classification approach is the discovery of exophobic string vacua [29].…”

“…The SO (16) × E 8 vacuum is produced in the fermionic language by the basis vectors {1, z 1 } from eq. (4.4), irrespective of the choices of the GGSO phases [34]. The tachyon in this model is obtained by acting on the right-moving vacuum with a single fermionic oscillator: ,4 } and additional z i basis vectors with four periodic worldsheet fermionic and utmost two overlapping periodic fermions.…”
