“…Although the octanol water partitioning coefficient (Kow) is not the only factor that influences biologic activity of a compound (Dearden, 1985;Tamaian et al, 2015) there are others, for example, solubility and molecule size. Nevertheless, the significantly higher log Kow for CIP 1.32 (Zambrano et al, 2021) in comparison with the other two compounds (SULF: − 0.09 (Zambrano et al, 2021) and TRIM: 0.91 (Lee et al, 2021)) might play some role in the observation of mayor alterations in the organisms exposed to CIP in relation to those observed under SULF and TRIM exposure. However, bioaccumulation was not assessed within the framework of this work and further studies that consider uptake kinetics and body or tissue burdens should be carried out to confirm the contribution of the lipophilicity of compounds to their toxic potential.…”

“…To calculate the risk quotient (RQ), the maximum concentrations of antibiotics for each sampling time and point were divided by the predicted no-effect concentration (PNEC) [3,19,29], and the PNEC values derived by Lee (2021) were used for ecological risk assessment [5]. Additionally, the PNEC values for the antibiotic resistance risk assessment reported in many studies were used [19,22,30].…”
