Strontium Hydroxyapatite Synthesis, Characterization and Cell Cytotoxicity

Abstract: Strontium hydroxyapatite powders was prepared by the hydrothermal method using Sr(NO3)2 and (NH4)2HPO4 as reagents. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Transmission electron microscope, Energy dispersive X-ray, and Thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis were employed to investigate the crystalline phase, chemical composition, morphology, and thermal stability of the Strontium hydroxyapatite. And the cytotoxicity of Strontium hydroxyapatite was analyzed through MTT assay. Result… Show more

“…Furthermore, it can be understood that the % cell viability of all samples was dose-dependent, which decreased with the increasing of the extract concentration. These findings are compatible with literature [36,38]. The lower HA addition amount resulted in the higher cell viability due to presence of less and smaller pores as also expressed by Song et al [39].…”

“…Many works report on the substitution of Sr 2+ ions for Ca 2+ ions within the hydroxyapatite structure [88][89][90][91], taking into account that Ca 2+ ion may be completely replaced with Sr 2+ due to their similar properties and atomic radii. Strontium-doped hydroxyapatite (Sr-HAp), with Sr concentration up to 50 mol%, has been synthesized by sol-gel process [64, 92,93], precipitation [49,88,[94][95][96][97], and hydrothermal method [98].…”
