Structural Analysis of Pressure Hulls: Rib-Stiffened Cylindrical Shell With Reinforced Circular Penetration

Abstract: A solution for the stresses in a rib-stiffened cylindrical shell with a reinforced circular penetration under hydrostatic pressure valid for a penetration radius to shell radius ratio less than or equal to 1/3 is presented. Numerical results for the unstiffened as well as the stiffened case are compared graphically with experimental data available from certain photoelastic model tests.
