Structural and morphological peculiarities of hybrid Au/nanodiamond engineered nanostructures

Abstract: Nanostructured Au nano-platelets have been synthesized from an Au(III) complex by growth process triggered by nanodiamond (ND). An electroless synthetic route has been used to obtain 2D Au/ND architectures, where individual nanodiamond particles are intimately embedded into face-centered cubic Au platelets. The combined use of high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), was able to reveal the unusual organization of these hybrid nanoparticles, ascert… Show more

“…The Variable Pressure Scanning Electron Microscopy (VP‐SEM) instrument (Hitachi, SU3500; Japan) allows for the morphological analysis of the surface of hydrated biological specimens without preliminary chemical treatments or conductive coating and is also equipped with dual energy dispersive spectroscopy (dEDS) detectors mounted on opposite sides of the column. Each detector (Bruker XFlash® 6|60) has a large active area consisting of a 60 mm 2 chip together with the slim‐line detector finger, which provides a large solid angle ideal for nano‐analysis (Matassa et al, ; Matassa et al, ). The XFlash® 6|60 is designed for use in applications with a relatively low X‐ray yield, delivering a good energy resolution for detecting a low energy range of atoms with a low atomic number.…”

“…The detrimental role that AMs possess might be explained by the secretion of IL-1, since this cytokine is an important enhancer of inflammation in the lungs. The secretion of IL-1β is able to generate an inflammatory response by itself and promotes the secretion of more pro-inflammatory cytokines [ 159 ]. Moreover, it is known that the secretion of IL-1α/β can produce an inflammatory pathological response in the lungs in infectious contexts with other viruses, such as influenza, while playing no role in the clearance of the virus [ 160 ].…”

“…Quasi‐ellipsoidal nanoplatelets, Figure , were synthesized by Matassa et al using detonation nanodiamond OH functionalized and an innovative Au complex . Under the experimental parameters, AuNPs show a discoidal shape having a diameter of about 30 nm, and a thickness of 10 nm, moreover, ND particles are sometimes embedded into the Au platelets.…”
