Structural and optical characterizations of BaSnO3 nanopowder synthesized by aqueous sol-gel method

Abstract: Precursor gel for preparation of nanocrystalline BaSnO 3 powder was synthesised by aqueous sol-gel method using Ba(OH) 2 • 8 H 2 O and Na 2 SnO 3 • 3 H 2 O as raw materials. Thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric analyses of the raw materials, precursor gel and a mechanical mixture of raw materials were carried out to understand the mechanisms involved in the formation of the single phase BaSnO 3. Based on the thermal analysis, the precursor gel was calcined at 400, 800 and 1400°C for 4 h to … Show more

“…Visible range transparent photoanode based solar cells 1 called as DSSCs have attracted much attention recently owing to its ease of fabrication as well as it being inexpensive and environmentally friendly at the same time. Some of the key areas for research in DSSCs have been the improvement in interfacial charge recombination 2 , 3 , metal-ion dye complex formation 4 , dye absorption durations 5 , electron mobility 6 , phase purity 7 , 8 , synthesis strategies 9 , 10 . These areas were more so explored because of pertaining limitations to presently used photo-anodes based on simple binary oxides such as ZnO and TiO 2 as well as the complex ternary oxide such as BaSnO 3, Zn 2 SnO 4 , SrTiO 3 , SrSnO 3 and BiFeO 3 11 , 12 .…”

“…The average crystallite size ( D ) of the powder was determined using Scherrer's formula D=kλβcosθmaxwhere k is the crystal shape coefficient ( k = 0.89), λ is the wavelength of X‐ray radiation, θ is the Bragg diffraction angle, and β is the full‐width at half‐maximum (FWHM).…”
