Structural and optical properties of Mg‐doped ZnO thin films prepared by a modified Pechini method

Abstract: Key words ZnO thin films, Mg-doped, modified pechini method, band gap, photoluminescence spectra.ZnO thin films with different Mg doping contents (0%, 3%, 5%, 8%, 10%, respectively) were prepared on quartz glass substrates by a modified Pechini method. XRD patterns reveal that all the thin films possess a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure. The peak position of (002) plane for Mg-doped ZnO thin films shifts toward higher angle due to the Mg doping. The crystallite size calculated by Debey-Scherrer fo… Show more

“…Subsequently, it increase the Fermi Level and also widening the band gap , [31]. According to quantum confinement effect, the smaller crystallites have a larger bandgap in metal oxide systems [32]. This is correlated with the findings in the XRD section in which the crystallite size of ZnO nanoparticles is reduced with the addition of Ti.…”

“…Magnesium (Mg) is one of the metals that is used in many applications such as refractory materials and optical and heating apparatus [9,10]. Mg-doped ZnO material also has special properties to block the electron due to its wide bandgap [11,12]. There are several methods to grow thin film on a substrate, such as molecular beam epitaxy, metal-organic chemical vapor deposition, plasma-enhanced chemical deposition, sputtering method, spray pyrolysis, atomic layer deposition, pulse laser deposition, electron beam evaporation, and sol-gel [13].…”
