This paper is concerned with examining the complete bond-slip behaviour between deformed reinforcement bars and concrete incorporating rubber particles from recycled tyres as partial replacement for mineral aggregates. An experimental study consisting of fifty-four pull-out tests on cylindrical rubberised and normal concrete specimens, in conjunction with two reinforcement sizes with short embedment lengths, is described. In addition to a detailed assessment of the full bondslip relationship, the test results offer a direct interpretation of bond behaviour under practical levels of confinement and its influence on the failure modes. Particular emphasis is given to the characteristic bond behaviour of rubberised concrete in terms of maximum bond strength and splitting strength as well bond stiffness and slip parameters. The detailed test measurements and observations provided in this study enable the definition of key bond parameters depicting the interfacial behaviour between rubberised concrete and deformed bars. The findings also permit the development of modified approaches for reliable representation of the failure modes and bond capacities for the concrete materials considered in this investigation.

Used tyre rubber wastes present a serious environmental problem of pollution and storage. The recycling of this waste in the industry of construction could be an appropriate solution to produce an eco-concrete and could contribute to the improvement of some of its properties. This paper aims to study the possibility of using tyre rubber waste as fine aggregate replacement in self-compacting concrete (SCC). Fines rubber particles of 0-2 mm of waste tyres were added SCC mixtures as a partial substitution of the total volume of sand at different percentages (5, 10, 15, 20 and 30%). The influence of fines rubber of used tyres on fresh and hardened properties of the SCC was investigated. The fresh properties of SCC were performed by using slump-flow, T50 flow time, L-box, V-funnel and segregation resistance tests.Characteristics of the hardened state were obtained by compressive strength and thermal conductivity. The experimental results showed that the inclusion of fines rubber in SCC decreases the workability, reduced its passing capacity and increases the possibility of blocking. A decrease in compressive strength is observed with the increase in rubber content.On the other hand, the incorporation of the rubber fines aggregates enhances in a remarkably way the thermal conductivity.Résumé : Les pneus usagés présentent des problèmes de pollution de l'environnement et de stockage. Le recyclage de ces déchets dans l'industrie de construction, s'avère une solution adéquate pour la production d'un éco-béton et peut contribuer à l'amélioration de certaines de ses propriétés. Cet article vise à étudier la possibilité de la valorisation des déchets caoutchouteux des pneus usagés sous forme de granulats dans le béton autoplaçant (BAP). Des particules de caoutchouc de 0-2mm de pneus ont été ajoutées aux mélanges du BAP en substitution partiel du volume total de sable à différents pourcentages (5, 10, 15, 20 et 30%). L'influence du caoutchouc sur les propriétés du BAP, aussi bien à l'état frais qu'à l'état durci, a été analysée. Les propriétés à l'état frais ont été déterminées à l'aide de tests du diamètre d'étalement et du temps d'écoulement, de L-box, du temps d'écoulement à l'entonnoir en V et de la résistance à la ségrégation par tamisage. Les caractéristiques à l'état durci ont été obtenues par l'essai de la résistance à la compression et la conductivité thermique. Les résultats expérimentaux ont montré que la présence du caoutchouc dans le BAP diminue l'ouvrabilité, réduit sa capacité de passage et augmente la possibilité de blocage. Une chute de la résistance à la compression est observée avec l'augmentation de taux de caoutchouc. Par contre, l'incorporation des granulats de caoutchouc améliore d'une façon remarquable la conductivité thermique.

In this paper, flexural fatigue test of self-compacting concrete (SCC) with waste tire 0% and 20% rubber content was studied. Meanwhile, the acoustic emission (AE) was used to monitor the whole process of the fatigue. The results show the dissipation energy presents obvious three stages, which are similar to the stiffness attenuation. The plateau value (PV) of radio of dissipated energy change has a double logarithmic linear relationship with fatigue life. Moreover, there is a linear relationship between the dissipated energy and cumulative AE parameters at about half of fatigue life. At last, the relationship between PV value calculated by cumulative AE counts changes and fatigue life is determined. Therefore, AE technology can be used to monitor the fatigue evolution of concrete.
