Structural Changes of Erythrocyte Surface Glycoconjugates after Treatment with Medicinal Mushrooms

Abstract: Under conditions of chronic hyperglycemia there is dysregulation of ion homeostasis, violation of redox metabolism and functioning of membrane enzymes, as well as changes in the structural and functional states of erythrocyte membranes. As a result, the aggregation ability of erythrocytes increased and their deformability decreased. These changes lead to complications to microcirculation blood flow and provoke the development of vascular complications caused by diabetes mellitus. This study investigated the ef… Show more

“…In addition, zebrafish DNA is amenable to genetic manipulation using morpholinos, shRNA, or Crisprs [ 16 ]. UV-induced zebrafish models have also been developed to study the expression of DNA repair genes and tumor suppressor genes regulation [ 17 , 18 , 19 ]. Furthermore, transparent zebrafish casper mutants have been consistently used for tumor-related and toxicological studies for assessing the phenotypic manifestations during development [ 20 ].…”

“…Mushrooms possessing medicinal values, such as Ganoderma, Chaga, and many others are currently being explored significantly because of their tremendous benefits without inducing any undesirable effects, besides possessing beneficial attributes such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-tumor [1217]. Given the wide benefits of Chaga mushroom, the effects of Chaga mushroom on the genotoxicity profile of an organism will be intriguing to explore.…”

“…Zebrafish has been used as in vivo model organism for testing a plethora of exogenous agents comprising drugs, nanoparticles, organic and inorganic compounds, besides being exposed to different stress environments. UV-induced zebrafish models have also been developed to study the expression of DNA repair genes and tumor suppressor genes regulation [1517]. Furthermore, transparent zebrafish casper mutants have been consistently used for tumour-related and toxicological studies for assessing the phenotypic manifestations during development [18].…”
