Structural Characterization of a Low Molecular Weight HG-Type Pectin From Gougunao Green Tea

Abstract: Tea is a popular beverage with a long history of safe and healthy use. Tea polysaccharide is a bioactive component extracted from tea, which has attracted more and more attention in recent decades. In this article, an acidic polysaccharide Gougunao tea polysaccharide (GPS) was isolated from Gougunao green tea by hot water extraction and ethanol precipitation. After purification by a diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) Sepharose Fast Flow column and a Sephacryl S-400 column, several homogalacturonan (HG) and rhamnogalactu… Show more

“…The 1 H NMR data are consistent with the 13 C NMR. In the low-field region of oxidized AG, typical signals of the C-6 carboxyl group of galacturonic acid units are observed at δ 173 and 174 ppm (esterified) and δ 170 ppm (non-esterified) [ 45 ]. In the anomeric region, overlapping signals at δ 100–108 ppm correspond to the C-1 galactose and arabinofuranose units in native AG, and after modification, galacturonic acid signals are added to the AG-TH spectrum ( Figure 11 b).…”

“…Signals corresponding to esterified methoxyl groups and the H2 of galacturonic residues appeared at 3.77 and 3.70 ppm, respectively [43]. The double peak observed between 4.45 and 4.35 ppm can be assigned to the H4 of galacturonic acid (4.40 ppm) and esterified galacturonic acid residues (4.46 ppm) [49]. In contrast, the SH-PEC spectrum exhibits a triple signal at 3.40 ppm, which corresponds to the protons of cysteamine (tagged as H1′) [50].…”

“…5) Jujube polysaccharides' structural characteristics and structural kinds could be established by NMR and methylation studies, and the majority of them belonged to a pectin family that resembled homogalacturonan (HG). [44,45]…”
