Abstract:The structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of Gd@C 82 endohedral metallofullerene have been studied by employing on-site correlation corrected, scalar-relativistic and full-relativistic density functional theory within the local density and generalized gradient approximations. The experimentally observed reduction of the magnetic moment of Gd@C 82 with respect to that of a free Gd +3 ion can be explained by a tiny hybridization between unoccupied Gd-4f states and carbonπ states, resulting in a generic… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
