“…Dietary fiber benefits human health and can also modulate gut microbiota for treating diarrhea infections (63). Furthermore, the Chinese herbal formula SLBZS has been demonstrated to have an effect in shifting the gut microbiome structure during the treatment of rats with antibiotic-associated diarrhea (64). Taken together, the current study may provide a theoretical basis for gut microbiota and potential novel targets for the control of the disease.…”

“…The rats were acclimatized for 7 days and then randomly divided into four groups (n = 6/group): the control (C) group, antibiotic-associated diarrhea (DM) group, natural recovery (NR) group, and WAP treatment (WAP) group. To establish the ADD model, rats on the DM, NR, and WAP groups received lincomycin hydrochloride (10 mL/kg) twice a day for 4 days by gavage [16], whereas rats in the C group received an equivalent amount of physiological saline. The rats of the DM group were anesthetized with isoflurane using a small animal anesthesia machine.…”

“…As diarrhea is a public health problem with potentially deadly effects, the WHO teamed up with other international organizations to launch a diarrheal disease control program with an emphasis on the use of traditional drug treatments to tackle the condition on a global scale (Xiong et al, 2018). Herbs and formulas in TCM can serve as drug discovery resources and valuable therapeutic strategies (Xu et al, 2015;Lv et al, 2017); however, according to the Chinese medicine theory, different types of diarrhea require different TCM formulas. Diarrhea can be divided into different forms such as dampness-heat, dampness-cold, spleen yang deficiency syndrome (Xiong et al, 2018) etc.…”
