“…In the past decade, single-crystal Ce-doped Gd 3 (Al,Ga) 5 O 12 (Ce/GAGG) has been found to be an excellent scintillator material with its characteristics continuously studied by many laboratories regarding both fundamental physical processes and application potential of these scintillators. We had previously reported the use of the Czochralski (CZ) technique to successfully grow Ce/GAGG crystals with a diameter of up to 3–4 in. , However, as is the case for many other oxide scintillators, the mass production of Ce/GAGG is difficult because of its high melting point. In most cases, one must either use a precious metal as the crucible material or heat the scintillator material indirectly.…”
