“…In all those compounds, the ligation of the Mn ions is provided mainly by O- and N-donor atoms from the various aminoacid residues present in the metalloproteins. In order to prepare functional and structural models of the Mn compounds that are present in metalloenzymes, efforts have been centered on the synthesis and study of manganese carboxylate complexes with various chelating N-donor ligands, such as 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) [1013], 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) [10, 1416], and 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole [17].
