“…Although irritability has been noted in a number of studies on OBX rats (Cain & Paxinos, 1974; van Riezen et al, 1977), other investigators have failed to observe it (Cain, 1974a; Thorne, Aaron, & Latham, 1974). It has been suggested by Cain (1974b) and Albert, Nanji, and Chew (1981) that a contributing factor to this inconsistency is the variability in the size of the lesion made when removing the olfactory bulbs.
