“…Jadassohn et al (1944), however, in the first report on Steroxin, described a case cross-sensitized by Vioform. Leifer and Steiner (1951) investigated three patients showing cross-sensitization to the hydroxyquinolines, the sensitizing substance being Vioform or Diodoquin. Their results suggest that hydroxyquinolines might be converted to carboxylattd pyridines, which act as the actual antigenic complex.…”

“…5,6 Since then, chlorquinaldol has been widely used throughout Europe and Great Britain for the topical treatment of bacterial and mycotic dermatoses, infectious eczematoid dermatitis, folliculitis, impetigo, pyodermia, and sycosis barbae. It was recently introduced into the United States, where it has gained favor in dermatologic therapy 7,8,9,10 and has been reported to be a highly effective remedy for refractory dermatoses when administered in combination with hydrocortisone acetate. 11 Despite the many publications (46 in all) on the clinical use of chlorquinaldol, data on its action against pathogenic fungi are limited to only three species: Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Candida albicans.…”
