Studies on a newly developed linseed oil‐based alumina‐filled polyesteramide anticorrosive coating

Abstract: Polyesteramide (PEA) and alumina-filled polyesteramide (APEA) resins were synthesized from N,NЈ-bis(2 hydroxyethyl) linseed amide. The FTIR, 1 H-NMR, DSC, TGA, thermal curing, and physico-chemical characterization of these polymers were carried out. The coatings of PEA and APEA were made on mild steel strips. The mechanical behavior and protective efficiency of these coatings in acid, alkali, and organic solvents were investigated. APEA coatings have been found to show superior performance in comparison to oth… Show more

“…Various vegetable oils such as linseed, soybean, safflower, sunflower, canola, rapeseed, rubber seed, castor, tung, Annona squamosa and Pongamia glabra are used in paints and coatings industry to produced different polymers viz. alkyd, polyesteramide (Shende et al, 2004;Ahmad et al, 1999), polyetheramide (Alam et al, 2004), polyepoxies (Sharmin et al, 2007), poly (amine amides) (Alam et al, 2009b;Ahmad et al, 2006), polyurethane (Petrovic, 2008) and poly(esteramideurethane) (Alam et al, 2009a). Pongamia glabra oil is a non drying oil; only small portion of the oil is reported to be utilised in soap, leather tanning and lubricant industries (Ahmad et al, 2003).…”
