Studies on the genetic and non‐genetic (physiological) variation of human erythrocyte glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase

Abstract: The thermostability profile of seven different electrophoretic variants of human erythrocyte GOT found in 13 different, unrelated families from a racially heterogeneous population was examined. The five different slow-variant and the two different fast-variant classes could be grouped into four different thermostability classes which were termed unstable, less stable, normal and more stable than normal. The thermostability differences among and within the electrophoretic variant classes permitted differentiati… Show more

“…and 4NG1 in this buffer system is smaller than that in the Triscitrate buffer system. On the basis of the migration rate observed in this buffer system, 2HR1 and 3NG1 or 4NGI seem to correspond to 2A and 3A, respectively, of Wurzinger and Mohrenweiser (1982) encountered in individuals of Oriental ancestry: the ratio of the distance between the homodimer band of 2HR1 and the homodimer band of 1 in the 1-2HR1 pattern to that between the homodimer band of 3NG1 or 4NG1 and the homodimer band of ! in the 1-3NG1 or I-4NG1 pattern was the same as the ratio of that in the 1-2A to that in the I-3A shown in their diagram.…”

“…In addition, normal or increased thermostability has been encountered in three new variants, 1-5NG1, 1-6HRI and 1-TNGI. Wurzinger and Mohrenweiser (1982) observed the difference in thermostability of GOT1 1 phenotype by sex and were able to subtype electrophoretic variants on the basis of thermostability profiles. Therefore, we calculated by sex the means and SDs of the percent remaining activities observed in our experiments of various phenotypes.…”
