“…Screening by title and abstract excluded 573 articles. A full-text review of remaining studies further eliminated 18 articles, leaving a total of 17 articles 68,10,11,1728 for inclusion in the final analysis. A diagram outlining the summary of the search process is shown in Supplementary Figure S1.…”

“…1 The pathogenesis of SLE has been linked to the development of SNHL in numerous clinical and audiological studies. 68 In addition, temporal bone histopathological studies have identified inner ear changes, namely the loss of cochlear hair cells and reduction in area of the stria vascularis, in patients with SLE suffering from SNHL. 9 Cases of conductive 7,10 and mixed hearing 11 loss have also been reported.…”

“…One study showed that the incidence of abnormal findings on electronystagmography in patients with SLE was significantly higher than in healthy control patients (20). Another study showed that pediatric patients with SLE also had vestibular disorders, as confirmed by videonystagmography and computerized dynamic posturography (21). A strong association between SLE and balance disorder has been suggested, but vestibular system involvement in patients with SLE has not been fully examined (22).…”

“…1 Chilblain lupus often occurs in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus but rarely occurs in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). 1,2 Recently, however, the development of chilblain lupus in RA patients under treatment with anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)a antibodies has been reported. 3 Golimumab is a relatively new anti-TNF-a antibody.…”

“…The prevalence of conductive hearing loss is reported to be comparable between patients with SLE and healthy individuals, 2 while the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss in SLE is reported to be in the range of 11.1-66%. [2][3][4] The pathogenesis of sensorineural hearing loss in SLE remains unclear, but the loss could be caused by microinfarctions and thrombosis affecting blood supply in the inner ear, based on a report that the presence of anticardiolipin antibodies was associated with the development of sensorineural hearing loss. 2 Our patient had conductive hearing loss and was negative for anticardiolipin antibodies and lupus anticoagulant.…”
