Study of Changes in Apparent Permeability in Shale’s Complex Microfracture Networks

Yunna Ding,
Bobo Li,
Jianhua Li
et al.

Abstract: The microfracture structure in the reservoirs of shale has a strong influence on gas transport. To depict the transport characteristics of shale gas in widely developed microfractures, this paper has constructed a shale apparent permeability model based on fractal theory. Shale's microfracture structure was first identified as a bifurcation network, with the effects of effective stress and gas adsorption considered to obtain the dynamic fractal dimension definition equation. Effective viscosity was corrected b… Show more

“…Based on the test results of development mode change in Huaqing Oilfield, the development technology of "energy storage before fracturing and displacement-imbibition combination" for ultra-low-permeability reservoirs is explored. Some machine learning approaches are also used to investigate the controlling factors of tight oil and gas productivity [20][21][22][23][24].…”

“…As human society continues to develop, environmental issues and the depletion of conventional energy resources have become problems that many countries must address. To address these issues, many countries are working to promote the development and utilization of unconventional energy sources such as geothermal energy, natural gas hydrates, shale gas, and coalbed methane (CBM). The development and utilization of CBM not only mitigate resource depletion but also curtail the environmental pollution caused by methane emissions. However, stable and efficient exploitation of CBM requires two fundamental conditions of the coal seam: first, the methane in the coal seam should be rapidly desorbed by injecting CO 2 to displace the methane within the coal; second, the coal seam must possess good permeability .…”
