“…This study, performed by Clq-BA and KgB-SP, confirms the previously reported increase of CIC in leukaemic sera Claque et al, 1978;Minden et al, 1980;Doan et al, 1980). The two methods were selected because of their different pattern of reactivity (Casali et al, 1977).…”

“…Since we did not perform any investigation on CIC composition, we could not exclude the possible role of infectious agents in their formation (Claque et al, 1978). However, the lack of correlation between the presence of CIC and fever or infections, which was found in our and other clinical investigations Minden et al, 1980), makes this hypothesis unlikely; furthermore recent immunological and electronmicroscopic studies on the composition of leukaemic CIC did not support their infectious origin (Doan et al, 1980;Fischer et al, 1980).…”

“…In the present study, the concentration of immunoglobulins and complement components was measured by optical nephelometry, which enabled us to identify 8&90% of the protein content of PEG precipitates using anti-immunoglobulin and anti-complement sera. Doan et al (1980) using immunodiffusion showed that 30% of the protein content of PEG precipitates from leukaemic patients contained both IgM and IgG and that the IgM/IgG ratio in these ICs varied in contrast to the almost constant proportion in ICs obtained from normal subjects. We have also demonstrated the presence of IgM and IgG containing ICs in both leukaemic and control subjects but we found that the IgM/IgG ratio was variable in both groups.…”
