Study of process variables in supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of soybeans

Abstract: Soybean flakes were extracted using supercritical carbon dioxide at 48.3 MPa and 80 °C, which is a higher temperature than previously reported. Several operational parameters were explored to determine their effect on extractions. Flakes, as typically used in this industry, provided the best extraction performance. Particle size distributions were created through grinding. Reducing average particle diameters smaller than 0.069 mm had no appreciable effect on increasing extraction efficiencies. Exploration of f… Show more

“…Previous studies have shown the feasibility of extraction of seed oil by SFE techniques (Wilkinson et al 2014;Ni et al 2015). Efficient extraction of seed oil may be accomplished with SC-CO 2 because CO 2 density results in adequate solvent power (Molero G omez et al 1996;Piras et al 2012), so CO 2 density higher of 500 kg/m 3 was used to achieve an adequate extraction yield of oil.…”

“…Similarly, factors, such as flow rate and residence time of CO 2 , could affect the extraction of natural products. Wilkinson et al [ 55 ] indicated that a residence time of less than 60 s for the SFE-CO 2 would be sufficient for complete the extractions of soybean oil by the exploration of flow rate.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports about the extraction of oil from Mudong bayberry kernels. Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate the optimal extraction conditions for oil from Mudong bayberry kernels using the organic solvent leaching method based on the response surface methodology (RSM) (Wilkinson et al, 2014). The fatty acid compositions of Mudong bayberry kernel oil were also analyzed using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).…”
