MoO3 and WO3 were supported on γ-Al2O3 and SiO2 with nominal loadings of 10 wt % via wet impregnation. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, TPR, Pulse TPD, Raman, TEM, and BET surface area. The alumina supported catalysts were found to contain higher Brønsted acidity compared to those supported on silica. These catalysts were evaluated in the hydrogenolysis of glycerol in a continuous flow fixed bed reactor in a temperature range of 250−325 °C and a H2 pressure of 60 bar. All catalysts were active, with activity increasing with temperature as well as Brønsted acidity. The selectivity to ethylene glycol and 1,2-propanediol decreased with increase in temperature. In parallel, the selectivity to lower alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, and 1-propanol increased with temperature as the ethylene glycol and 1,2propanediol reacted further to these products due to C−C bond cleavage. The total selectivity to lower alcohols was 34.6, 64.8, 70.6, and 54.6% over Mo/Al2O3, Mo/SiO2, W/Al2O3, and W/SiO2 respectively. The total selectivity to lower alcohols increased to 73.6, 72.8, 85.3, and 66.1% over Mo/Al2O3, Mo/SiO2, W/Al2O3, and W/SiO2 respectively when the H2:glycerol ratio was doubled.

Cordierite honeycombs were coated with solid acid catalysts such as ZrO2 (Z), Mo(VI)/ZrO2 (MZ) and Pt-SO4 2-/ZrO2 (PSZ) were prepared and characterized for their physico-chemical properties. These catalytic materials were characterized for their total surface acidity, crystallinity, functionality, elemental analysis and morphology by using techniques such as NH3 -TPD, PXRD, FTIR, ICP-OES, SEM and TEM respectively. These honeycomb catalysts were used for the liquid phase transesterification reaction of methyl salicylate (MS) with n-butanol (n-BA). Optimization of reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, reaction time, amount of catalysts and molar ratio of the reactants were carried out to obtain maximum yield of transester (n-butyl salicylate). n-butyl salicylate is obtained as major product and di-butyl ether is obtained as minor product. Highest total transester 70 % obtained by MZ and 80 % n-butyl salicylate and 10 % selectivity of di-butyl ether obtained in the presence of 0.4 g of honeycomb coated catalysts at a molar ratio of MS: n-BA 2:1, reaction temperature 403 K and reaction time 4 h. The energy of activation (16.81 and 14.92 kJ mol-1) and temperature coefficient (1.36 and 1.12) values of the MZ and PSZ were obtained from the kinetic studies. Pre-adsorption studies showed that the transesterification reaction methyl salicylate with n-butyl alcohol over honeycomb catalysts follows Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism. A reaction mechanism for transesterification is proposed based on the kinetic data. Reactivation and reusability studies of the honeycomb coated as well as powder form of catalysts up to 6 reaction cycles were also studied.Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res.53(1), 63-76, 2018

요 약인화점은 액체 용액의 폭발과 화재의 위험성을 특징짓는 가장 중요한 성질 중 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 두개의 가연성 이성분계 혼합물인 n-decane + n-octanol계 및 acetic acid + n-butanol계의 인화점을 Tag 개방식 장치를 활용하여 측정하 였다. 인화점은 그룹기여모델인 UNIFAC 식과, 최적화기법에 의해 계산되었다. 그리고 측정값과 비교하였다. 두 방법 모 두 측정값을 잘 모사하였다. ABSTRACTThe flash point is one of the most important properties for characterizing the fire and explosion hazard of liquid solutions. In this study, a Tag open-cup apparatus was used to measure the flash points of two flammable binary mixtures, ndecane + n-octanol and acetic acid + n-butanol. The flash point temperature was estimated using the UNIFAC (Universal Functional Activity Coefficient) group contribution model and optimization method. The experimentally derived flash point was also compared with the predicted flash point. The two methods can estimate the flash point fairly well for the ndecane + n-octanol and acetic acid + n-butanol systems.
