Study of the performance and emission characteristics for a dual fuel powered single cylinder diesel engine

Abstract: In the present study, the performance of a new combination of biofuels jatropha biodiesel and turpentine oil for a diesel engine with a view to eliminate dependency on fossil fuel was observed. Jatropha biodiesel and turpentine oil are a high and low viscosity fuel combination with comparable heating values to that of diesel; this makes them conducive for in a diesel engine. The extensive experimental work was carried out on a Kirloskar make-single cylinder, constant speed, four strokes, 661cc diesel engine to… Show more

“…The CO2 emissions for all fuel blends were less than that of diesel. This concurs with results obtained by Dubey and Gupta [49]. This is attributed to the fact that biodiesels are low carbon fuels and have a lower elemental carbon to hydrogen ratio than diesel [47,50].…”

“…CO2 dissociation, combustion temperature, air to fuel ratio and other parameters could have contrary effects on final CO fraction. We can find more information about the subject of this study in previous papers [43], [44], [45], [46], [47]. Table 3.…”

“…Using catalysts in the reaction between VOs or AFs and methanol, 2-propanol, ethanol, and buthanol was carried out for transesterification. The transesterification was potential and cheap method of transforming bio-oils with the large structure and non-straight-chain molecules into smaller structure, straight-chain molecules aiming at meeting the requirement of fuel standard for diesel engines [8]. The biodiesel properties such as viscosity, cloud point, heat of combustion, volatility were similar to diesel fuel.…”
