Study of total suspended solid concentration based on Doxaran algorithm using Landsat 8 image in coastal water between Bodri River estuary up to east flood canal Semarang City

Abstract: The water quality in the northern coastal waters estuary of Central Java has been polluted at a moderate to severe level. Water quality monitoring efforts for evaluating the condition of dissolved sedimentation can be done through total suspended solid methods by analising the remote sensing imagery. Total suspended solid (TSS) is measured by suspended material (diameter> 1 µm) which retained in the millopore filter with a 0.45 µm pore diameter. The purpose of this research is to assess the distribution of … Show more

“…The high TSS value could inhibit the growth of aquatic plants because it interferes with the plant's photosynthetic process. According to Sanjoto et al (2020), suspended and dissolved materials in the water are not toxic. However, if they are in excessive amount, they can increase the turbidity value, further inhibiting sunlight penetration into the water column and ultimately affecting the photosynthetic process in the water (Oseni et al, 2018).…”

“…Several WQPs have been monitored with these techniques. Some of these parameters include TDS or salinity, SS, chlorophyll-a concentration, turbidity, surface water temperature, cations, and anions [8,17,42,86,[152][153][154][155][156][157][158][159][160][161].…”

“…Because the suspended particles absorb more heat and use up more oxygen, the water may heat more quickly as a result, which may be harmful to aquatic life [38]. TSS can also cause clogging in the gills of fish leading to their death [49,[102][103][104]. The reported average upper tolerance level of SSC is about 90 mg/L for fish and 13 mg/L for bottom invertebrates [69].…”
