STUDY ON ACTUAL CONDITIONS AND PROBLEM OF COMPOSITE WELFARE FACILITIES FOR THE AGED USED VACANT CLASSROOM OF PUBLIC PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL : Composite cases mainly focused on day service center

Over the past 30 years, environment and behavior research in Japan has paralleled the international growth of the field. Unfortunately, despite noteworthy periodic efforts to cross-culturally bridge language barriers between English- and Japanese-speaking researchers, public policy makers, planning and design practitioners, and students specializing in this subject area, significant communication obstacles persist. In response, a literature review is presented of recent research in Japan on the subject of environment and aging. The review spans a 17-year period (1985-2002). The objective is to enhance international communication, stimulate collaborative work, and foster appreciation of the broad parameters of the dramatic trends in aging occurring globally.

The purpose of this paper is to show the demands of new space in primary schools, by grasping required functions and the usage of multi-purpose spaces and vacant classrooms.Main results are as follows; 1) The new required functions for school activities are cleared, from analyzing the degree of realization about assumptive 45 functions and the demands of their improvement.2) The process of functions arrangement is showed, through the transform of space requirements depended on surplus of spaces in school facilities.3) The space demands of school facilities are clarified by the characteristic of free-space usage for the required functions.

This study focuses on a facility management and community activities executed in Local Liaison Exchange Center (LLEC), which is a part of Prefectural Special Needs School (PSNS) in Harima Town. These community activities are based on collaborations between PSNS, Machizukuri organization and local communities. Thus this study aims to investigate effects by the facility management and community activities.Viewpoints of analysis are follows; 1) Making process of collaboration between PSNS and Machizukuri organization, 2) Mutual recognitions and expectations between PSNS and local community, 3) Clarifying of the utilization of the LLEC, 4) Effects that community activities executed at LLEC give to relations between PSNS and local community.
