Study on Bidirectional Blasting Technology for Composite Sandstone Roof in Gob-Side Entry-Retaining Mining Method

Abstract: The traditional gob-side entry-retaining mining method has problems such as difficulty in roof collapse and large deformation of the entry, which may affect the safety of mine production. In this study, we introduced a bidirectional blasting technology (BBT) to make the roof collapse smoothly and to improve the traditional gob-side entry-retaining mining method. A theoretical model of the BBT was established and the stress propagation of the BBT was analyzed by numerical simulation. The gob-side entry-retainin… Show more

“…At 89-91 ms, the equivalent stress superimposed between holes and rows is obvious. There are stress weakening areas between the center line of the first row of blastholes and the second row of blastholes and between the first row of blastholes and the free surface (Emad et al, 2018;Gao et al, 2021). There is a strong stress concentration phenomenon at the center of the hole (Figures 5G,H).…”

“…And EAFRC technology, through the directional pre-splitting cut off the roof stress transfer, cut off the stress transfer between the roof of the entry and the roof of the mining area (Gao et al, 2021; Manchao et al, 2018). And it improves the stress environment of the retained entry surrounding rock, while using the collapse of the roof plate of the mining area of the gangue crushed expansion characteristics to fill the mining area, as shown in Figure 4(b).…”

“…In the above analysis, it can be seen that compared with the traditional gob-side entry retaining, the process of gob-side entry retaining by roof cutting is simple, and the reinforcement support, the temporary support of single pillar, and the gangue retaining are easy to operate [18,19]. The most difficult process link of gob-side entry retaining by roof cutting is the bidirectional energy blasting.…”
