Study on Line-Start Permanent Magnet Assistance Synchronous Reluctance Motor for Improving Efficiency and Power Factor

Abstract: In order to improve the efficiency, a line-start synchronous reluctance motor (LS-SynRM) is studied as an alternative to an induction motor (IM). However, because of the saliency characteristic of SynRM, LS-SynRM have a limited power factor. Therefore, to improve the efficiency and power factor of electric motors, we propose a line-start permanent magnet assistance synchronous reluctance motor (LS-PMA-SynRM) with permanent magnets inserted into LS-SynRM. IM and LS-SynRM are selected as reference models, whose … Show more

“…Another type of IM is the squirrel-cage induction motor (SCIM). When the SCIM compared with PMaSynRM, it is seen that PMaSynRM has less losses and higher efficiency [23][24][25]. In a study, PMSM and PMaSynRM were compared.…”

“…An analysis of the technical and economic benefits of substitution between these technologies has been presented in [2,3,[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. In addition, the studies in [17,18,21,22,[24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32] include the main constructive characteristics, weaknesses and strengths related to the LSPMM. In [16], an in-field replacement example of a squirrel-cage induction motor by a line start permanent magnet motor (LSPMM) is presented.…”
