Study on non‐uniformity and dynamic fracture characteristics of GIL tri‐post insulators considering Al2O3 sedimentation

Abstract: Tri‐post insulators in gas‐insulated transmission line (GIL) are usually fabricated with high mass fraction of micron aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which will unavoidably settle under the action of gravity during the preparation process and seriously affect the uniformity. A model of filler sedimentation in epoxy resin composite materials was proposed based on the particle size analysis and Stokes' Law. Some scaled tri‐post insulators were prepared and tested by slicing. It is determined that the position of density… Show more

“…The geographical environment and geological conditions along the power transmission line are complex and with significant advantages such as large transmission capacity, low transmission loss, small floor area and no electromagnetic environmental effect, gas insulated transmission line (GIL) is considered as the key technology to solve the problem of largecapacity power transmission in special scenarios, and has been rapidly developed [1][2][3][4]. Gas insulated switch gear (GIS) with small floor area, long maintenance period, small impact from external environment and reliable operation, and is the key development direction to enhance the ability of power grid to resist natural disasters [5][6][7].…”

“…Gas-insulated switchgears (GIS) have gained increasing importance in ultra-high voltage transmission applications in China [1,2]. Epoxy-based insulation pull rods play a critical role in providing the electrical connection for GIS [3,4]. Due to the frequent switching operations, for a GIS, the mechanical and insulation performance must be excellent.…”

“…Epoxy resins and their composites are widely sought due to their excellent chemical resistance, novel mechanical and electrical insulation properties, and good adhesion to various materials. Moreover, the flexible processability of epoxy resin is not possessed by other thermosetting materials [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. However, unmodified epoxy resin has relatively poor heat resistance and toughness.…”
