Study on Origin and Phylogeny Status of Hu Sheep

Abstract: Applying simple random sampling in typical colony methods in the central area of habitat, 14 structural loci and 31 alleles in blood enzyme and other protein variations of Hu sheep population are examined. After collecting the same data of 11 loci about the 22 sheep colonies in China and other countries, it clusters the 23 sheep populations by fuzzy cluster analysis. The study proves that the phylogenetic relationship between Hu sheep population and Mongolia populations is relatively closed. This result obtain… Show more

“…Our results demonstrate that Hu sheep are derived from Mongolian sheep, the same conclusion made by others (Geng et al, 2003;Yang et al, 2002). Small-tailed Han sheep also evolved from Mongolian sheep, which is consistent with its wellknown history of breeding (Editorial group of Sheep and Goat Breeds in China, 1989) and the viewpoint of Xie that "modern sheep breeds across China, except in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and its neighboring areas, originate from Mongolian sheep" (Xie, 1985).…”
