This study introduces a sustainable bio-based hydrogel crafted from boat-fruited Sterculia seed polysaccharide (BF), silk fiber (SF), calcium chloride (CaCl2), and borax. The inherent hydrophilic groups and natural network structure of BF are conducive to the formation of a hydrogel with a high water content and a porous structure. The SF serves a dual role, providing structural support and acting as an antifreezing agent. The unique structure of this hydrogel is characterized by reversible dynamic cross-links, including hydrogen, borate ester, and Ca2+/–COOH coordination bonds, which endow it with excellent self-healing, mechanical, thermoreversible, and freeze-resistant properties. The bio-based hydrogel successfully adheres to various surfaces, including skin, and provides stable, repeatable electrical signals for the monitoring of diverse human movements (e.g., elbow and wrist movement) and subtle facial expressions. Moreover, the hydrogel exhibits excellent stability and reusability. Our study thus provides a convenient and environmentally friendly strategy for fabricating self-healing hydrogels with promising applications in healthcare monitoring or human–computer interactions.

IntroductionThe seeds of Sterculia lychnophora Hance, commonly known as Pangdahai (PDH) in Chinese, have found extensive use in both culinary and traditional medicinal practices. However, a comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition of PDH has been lacking.ObjectivesThis study proposes a strategy that integrates biosynthetic pathway analysis with feature‐based molecular networking (FBMN), aiming for a thorough and global characterization of the chemical compositions of PDH.MethodologyThe FBMN map reveals potential compounds with structural similarity, and the MS/MS fragments could be annotated based on library matches, which could predict the plausible biosynthetic pathways in PDH, accomplishing the annotation of compounds clustered in FBMN by integrating biosynthetic pathways.ResultsConsequently, 126 compounds were plausibly or unambiguously identified, including 37 phenolic acids and glycosides, 20 flavonoids and glycosides, 12 procyanidins, 21 alkaloids, 22 lipids, and 14 others. Leveraging the information, 40 compounds, including 1 unique isoquinoline alkaloid and 2 rare linear furocoumarins, were isolated and confirmed.ConclusionsThis study not only demonstrates a highly effective approach for identifying compounds within complex herbal mixtures but also establishes a robust foundation for the further development of PDH.

Triterpenoids derived from natural products can exert antihyperuricemic effects. Here, we investigated the antihyperuricemic activity and mechanism of quinoa bran saponins (QBSs) in hyperuricemic mouse and cell models. The QBS4 fraction, with the highest saponin content, was used. Fourier-transform infrared, high-performance liquid chromatography, and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography−mass spectrometry identified 11 individual saponins in QBS4, of which the main components were hederagenin and oleanolic acid. The QBS4 effects on hyperuricemic mice (induced by adenine and potassium oxonate) were then studied. QBS4 reduced the levels of uric acid (UA), serum urea nitrogen, creatinine, and lipids in mice with hyperuricemia (HUA) and decreased renal inflammation and renal damage. Molecular analysis revealed that QBS4 may alleviate HUA by regulating the expression of key genes involved in the transport of UA and by inhibiting the activation of the PI3K/AKT/ NFκB inflammatory signaling pathway. In conclusion, QBS4 has promise for using as a natural dietary supplement to treat and prevent HUA.
