Study on the compatibility of ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymer/vermiculite in biaxially oriented polypropylene films

Abstract: A process for preparing expanded vermiculite/ethylene vinyl acetate nanocomposites by ball milling expanded vermiculite (EVMT) in cyclohexane solution of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer resin (EVA) was presented, and the influence of EVA/EVMT nanocomposites on mechanical, barrier performance of modified biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films was discussed in this article. By the process, the EVMT is intercalated and exfoliated to obtain a kind of EVMT/EVA nanocomposite, in which EVA serves as both inte… Show more

“…1 As set forth in the literature, organovermiculite (organo-VMT) can be prepared with the ion-exchange method, with H 1 , 2 alkyl ammonium salt, 3,4 or maleic anhydride. 7,8 Although the EVMT-EVA combination greatly improved the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) films, they made less of a contribution to the barrier properties because the aspect ratio of the platelike particles in EVMT-EVA was less than 50. In our previous studies, we used ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) as an intercalating agent into expanded vermiculite (EVMT).…”
