“…The PASI is a useful tool in monitoring response to treatment. There are limited studies to show the role of trace elements in psoriasis [30]. Heavy metals are contained in trace concentrations in the raw materials used to manufacture cement [31].…”

“…The unique process of keratinization and melanin formation is enzyme dependent and therefore could be influenced by trace element deficiencies or excesses as trace elements are involved in enzymatic activities and immunologic reactions. Studies have also shown that essential trace elements like iron (Fe), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), and vanadium (V) underwent redox cycling and had physiological significance [16]. Moreover, iron is necessary for many aspects of free radical metabolism, and its deficiency reduces leukocyte bactericidal when the capacity of iron declines.…”

“…Sulfur mineral waters, used for drinking, have antioxidant properties (16). It has been shown that exogenous hydrogen sulphide reduces clonal growth, cell proliferation and cell adhesion of human keratinocytes in psoriasis, but the role of endogenous sulfur in psoriasis is not well claryfi ed, since reduced level has been reported in patients with psoriasis as compared to normal subjects (17). Results obtained in experimental mouse model proved that hydrogen sulphide in sulfur mineral waters signifi cantly reduces edema, inhibits the vascular phase of allergic contact dermatitis and increases plasma concentration of somatostatin.…”
