Study on the Reaction Mechanism for Soot Oxidation Over TiO2 or ZrO2-supported Vanadium Oxide Catalysts by Means of In-situ UV-Raman

Abstract: The reaction mechanisms for diesel soot oxidation over V 4 /ZrO 2 or V 4 /TiO 2 oxide catalysts were studied by the means of in-situ UV-Raman spectroscopy. The results indicate that the formation of surface oxygen complexes (SOC) is a key step and the SOC species mainly exist as carboxyl groups. The presence of NO in the reaction gas stream can promote the formation of SOC species. For soot oxidation over V 4 /TiO 2 catalyst, NO 2 can be produced and remarkably accelerate soot oxidation. Based on the UV-Raman e… Show more

“…Moreover, the commercial Peugeot‐Citröen Societé d'Automobiles system for diesel particulate abatement utilizes Ce as a fuel additive, which ultimately results in excellent contact between in situ ‐formed CeO 2 and soot particles on the particulate filter and lowers the ignition temperature of soot oxidation . It has also been well known that ceria‐based catalysts demonstrated higher activity in soot oxidation after doping with other elements, such as La and Zr …”

“…Vanadium-based catalysts have been widely employed in the field of catalysts, including the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane, selective oxidation of alcohols, oxidative degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides [4][5][6][7]. In recent years, vanadium-based catalysts have been considered as the most potential one for regeneration of DPF [1,[8][9][10]. This is mainly attributed to its unique properties.…”

“…However, the soot particulate matter (PM) emitted from diesel engine is a serious contamination for human beings, as it can penetrate into the lung and cause severe bronchial troubles [5][6]. With the regulations for pollutant emissions becoming stricter, it becomes very important and urgent to develop the after-treatment technologies for PM abatement [7][8][9][10].…”
