Study on Urban Residual Space as Solutions Review for Area Problems

Abstract: In cities, spaces were intentionally formed, planned, or unintentionally unplanned. Unlike planned spaces, unplanned spaces in urban areas eventually tend to cause problems for the area. These spaces were referred to as residual spaces, which were generally vacant land or open space in various urban spaces. Urban residual space was also commonly found in tertiary activity centers in big cities like Jakarta, one of which was in the trade and service area of the city. Residual space in such areas grew and develo… Show more

“…It follows that a piece of land or area that cannot be used effectively due to urban development and design is what is known as the city's remaining space or leftover space. Unintentionally created open and closed areas from a development or design activity are called leftover spaces (Ayudya et al, 2019). The majority of the research projects that were included in earlier systematic reviews were carried out in sprawling, sparsely populated regions of Australia and the United States.…”

“…Hence, with a higher impervious value of the area, it prevents the rainwater from infiltrating the soil. This land use changes because of a growth in the population, which increases the conversion of land use from open space to residential areas [4]. The development of residential areas not supported by the planning of drainage systems and good drainage infrastructure may cause inundation or flooding [5].…”
