Authorship attribution, the science of inferring characteristics of the author from the characteristics of documents written by that author, is a problem with a long history and a wide range of application. Recent work in "non-traditional" authorship attribution demonstrates the practicality of automatically analyzing documents based on authorial style, but the state of the art is confusing. Analyses are difficult to apply, little is known about type or rate of errors, and few "best practices" are available. In part because of this confusion, the field has perhaps had less uptake and general acceptance than is its due.This review surveys the history and present state of the discipline, presenting some comparative results when available. It shows, first, that the discipline is quite successful, even in difficult cases involving small documents in unfamiliar and less studied languages; it further analyzes the types of analysis and features used and tries to determine characteristics of well-performing systems, finally formulating these in a set of recommendations for best practices.

Bu çalışmada köşe yazısı uzunluğundaki yazılarda noktalama ve etkisiz kelime kullanım sıklığı gibi basit özniteliklerin yazar tanımada yeterli olduğu ortaya konmuştur. Cumhuriyet gazetesi yazarlarından sıkça köşe yazan 6 adedi seçilerek her birinin çalışmanın başladığı tarihten geriye doğru son 120 köşe yazıları alınmış, her bir yazı için bir takım etkisiz kelime ve noktalama işaretlerinin kullanım sıklıklarına dayanan dokuz adet öznitelik elde edilmiştir. Sekiz gözetimli yapay öğrenme algoritması eğitildikten sonra yazının yazarını tanıma başarısı önişlemsiz ve önişlemden geçirilmiş veri kümelerinde ayrı ayrı ölçülmüş, asgari %82 ve azami %92 olmak üzere yüksek isabetli sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Ölçeklemenin ve temel bileşen analizinin (PCA) başarıyı anlamlı miktarda değiştirmediği, ancak ölçekleme ve boyut azaltma yöntemi olarak doğrusal ayırtaç çözümlemenin (LDA) birlikte kullanılmasının en yakın komşu (kNN) ve Gaussian Naive Bayes (GNB) algoritmalarının yöntemlerin başarılarında yüksek anlamlı (p<0.001), destek vektör makineleri (SVM) algoritmasının başarısında ise anlamlı (p<0.05) bir fark yarattığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca karar ağacı temelli rasgele orman algoritmasında (RF) öznitelik önem analizi yapılarak cümle başına ortalama kelime sayısının ve virgül kullanma sıklığının en ayırıcı öznitelikler olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Authorship attribution is one of the important problem, with many applications of practical use in the real-world. Authorship identification determines the likelihood of a piece of writing produced by a particular author by examining the other writings of that author. Every author has a unique style of writing pattern. This paper identifies the unique style of an author(s) using lexical stylometric features including function words using balanced training corpus. The present paper calculates the frequencies of the lexical based stylometric features by balancing training and test corpus on English editorial documents. The present paper compares various machine learning algorithms for the authorship attribution and achieved highest average accuracy 95.58 using Random Forest classifier and 92.59 using Multilayer Perceptron algorithms.
